Nyepi Day

NYEPI DAY 2024

Nyepi Day, falls on 11th March this year, a day of silence, celebrating the start of the Hindu new year, for the Balinese this is a time to reflect on the year past and plan for the year ahead.

The Melasti Ceremony is a purification ritual usually held a few days before Nyepi Day. This takes place on the beach, is a colourful spectacle where people bring offerings and pray to cleanse their bodies and earth of bad spirits.

On the eve of Nyepi, i villages and communities gather with their Ogoh Ogoh ( large paper mache sculptures) and parade through the streets which end with them ceremoniously being burnt, symbolizing purification. This is a spectacular procession and a highlight of the Nyepi festivities.

Nyepi Day itself is a spiritual day reserved for self reflection, observed from 6 am on 11th March until 6 am on 12th March, with anything that may interfere with that purpose being restricted. The main restrictions are no power, no working, no entertainment, no travelling (people stay at home) and, for some, no eating.

Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents and tourists are not exempt from the restrictions. We ask all visitors to Lembongan during Nyepi Day to respect these traditions and to remain within their accommodation confines. Whilst some hotels on Bali receive special permission to use limited power, it is far stricter on Nusa Lembongan with many places closing or operating without power and minimum or no staff for the day. It is advised you check with your accommodation to find out their policies surrounding this special day.

We trust all visitors will be mindful and respectful of Nyepi Day and the importance it plays in the Hindu culture.

Nusa Lembongan and neighbouring island Ceningan have beautiful beaches, making it a water lover’s paradise for holiday makers. There are beaches suitable for families with young children, snorkelling, surfing, catching some sun-rays, beachcombing & beachside bintangs!

The waters surrounding Nusa Lembongan are crystal clear with incredible visibility found in few places around the world.

Jungut Batu

This is the main bay in Nusa Lembongan, where the majority of boats from Bali arrive. It is home to Lembongan’s 3 surf breaks (Playgrounds, Lacerations & Shipwrecks) and is also great for SUP boarding. The northern stretch is ideal for “beach-time” with its white sand and turquoise waters, the inner lagoon is generally calm & protected by the outer reef. There are plenty of beachfront restaurants where you can dine with your feet in the sand and enjoy a Bintang or cocktail or two! The perfect place to also watch Lembongan’s beautiful sunsets. Coconut Beach

Considered by many as Lembongan’s BEST beach, Coconut Beach is nestled between Jungut Batu and Tamraind Bay. It is a favourite with everyone, ideal for families with kids who want to swim and play on the beach ( there is also shade under the trees), perfect for snorkelling, and the place for surfers to paddle out to Playgrounds or onto Lacerations surf breaks. We have a range of villas, resorts & bungalows all in close walking distance or it can be accessed from Tamarind Bay via a track around the headland. If you are staying in Jungut Batu on “the hill” this will be your local beach.

Tamarind Bay

Located between Coconut Beach and Mushroom Bay, the beach is best suited for swimming and snorkelling on mid to high tide. The far northern end has a beautiful mini lagoon which is accessible on all tides, making it a stunning spot for beach lovers staying in Tamarind Bay. It is a great bay for SUP boarding, and on a larger swell a fun left hand wave can form from the headland across the middle of the bay. Mushroom Bay

Renowned by many as the most protected beach and most suitable for children, great for swimming , SUP boarding & snorkelling. The northern end has an all-day dedicated swimming area as there are commercial boats bringing visitors into the bay. There are some great beach front restaurants to enjoy, offering bean bags and relaxed feet in the sand style hospitality. Mushroom Bay also has a great range of accommodation including, private Villas, Resorts and Bungalows.

Sandy Bay

Sandy Bay is home to Sandy Bay Beach Club and some of Lembongan’s favourite private villas. Sandy Bay is not a swimming beach, with large swells and strong currents. However, on mid-low tide it is the perfect for kids playing in the sand and rock pools. Sandy Bay Beach Club also offers an all day beach club and is renowned for it’s spectacular sunsets.

Dream Beach

Dream Beach is a stunning beach for relaxing, swimming is only advised for the experienced, as there can be rips, large swell and tides. It is a favourite stop off point for day trip visitors, so if you are looking for some solitude it is best to visit early mornings and late afternoons. We recommend you check out Dream Beach Huts.

Secret Beach at Mahana Point

Located at the southern end of Nusa Ceningan. Secret Beach is a stunning cove of sandy white beach, a crystal clear waters that fill the rock pools and lagoons. If you have a scooter, this should be on your list, especially if you have a partner who is an experienced surfer as it overlooks Mahana Point surf break. If you are looking for a luxury villa to accommodate a large group (sleeps up to 14 people plus two extra beds) whilst still maintaining a sense of peacefulness and comfort, look no further than the wonderful Villa Sayang. This villa is the whole package, incorporating privacy, gorgeous views and water access. Available as a full complex of 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and two infinity pools or can be enjoyed as a four and three bedroom villa if you have smaller groups.

Located beach front in Tamarind Bay, you can sit back and watch the action at Playgrounds, whilst the incredibly attentive and friendly staff look after your every need. The relaxed open feel of this luxury villa is truly beautiful and gives you a true appreciation of space. The 4 bedroom villa incorporates 2 bales overlooking the water at each end of the wet edge pool, you can sit back and watch the world go by, or doze off listening to the palms and bougainvillea rustle on the soft ocean breeze. Materials used throughout the building are all natural stone and timber creating a stylish, earthy and traditional Balinese feel.

The use of space has not been compromised and extra large bedrooms and bathrooms, simply and elegantly decorated with gorgeous cotton linens create the sense you are in a large family home. I loved the small glass free window in my bathroom that was enveloped with bougainvillea, through which I could catch glimpses of the aqua blue ocean.

There was also something decadent and serene about sitting on my upper bedroom balcony overlooking a canopy of trees and the turquoise bay sipping tea.

Hungry? Villa Sayang staff will whip you up something fresh, delicious and healthy inspired by local, seasonal produce. We were treated to the most amazing Asian inspired prawn salad for lunch.

Like activities? Take a snorkelling trip on one of the two Villa Sayang boats that come complete with skipper and deck hand at your beck and call and float amongst the underwater paradise with amazing coral reefs and abundant fish life so close by. A paddle out to Playgrounds surf break is another option, or onto Lacerations for those who like a barrel!

Stressed? An in house massage in the purpose built massage room should take care of things.

Wander down the front path and sit on the waterfront private deck that belongs to Villa Sayang and tip your toes in the water. If the tide is low you will discover your very own private beach.

WOW!! We were eyes wide open walking into Villa Sari, in our opinion this is the ultimate “island-beachy” inspired villa. Villa Sari has been designed to make you feel like at home with the extra touches that you only find in a private villa.

Island days at Villa Sari are made extra extra with its prime location in Sandy Bay, 2 master suites each with a divine outdoor bathroom plus a kids bunk room (inter-connecting door to one of the master suites) which goes 3 high making for plenty of room for two families and comfortably sleeping 10 in total.

Villa Rumah Putih, Lembongan Luxe

I’ve never been great at keeping secrets, and when I find something amazing – I love to shout it to the world, my boyfriend even says to me sshhhhh don’t tell everyone. Well Lembongan lovers I have got a secret for you, thanks to the Lembongan Traveller, I just discovered the most AMAZING, STUNNING, GORGEOUS villa on the island – Rumah Putih.

Perched high on the hill overlooking coconuts beach Villa Rumah Putih (translation= White House) oozes island luxe. White on white modern interiors, with 50 shades of blue views, this stunning property is a little bit Hamptons, a tad bit Maldives and a lot of Mykonos. The moment I walked through the white wooden panelled door, I fell completely in love with everything in this place, its all and more that I adore about island holidays.

Rumah Putih is split level meaning every single inch of this villa takes full advantages of the stunning sparkling views of Lembongan bay.

The ground level showcases a whiter than white kitchen, a gorgeous open air living and dining area, a large air-conditioned cinema room (yep you read right, a cinema room), a deep blue beautiful infinity pool surrounded by sun loungers and 2 perfectly placed bale’s where you can lay, read and snooze. And of course there are 2 deluxe and dreamy bedrooms both overlooking the water and both with enormous ensuites, featuring large bathtubs, double vanity, ample drawers and closet space to hang your Camilla kaftans.

The upper levels feature 2 additional beautiful bedrooms, ensuites, outside showers and separating the two is a generously sized plunge pool! The sunset sundeck overlooks everything and is the perfect place to take in the breathtaking views surrounding this gorgeous villa.

Rumah Putih literally has all you would expect in a luxury villa, and I mean it has it all, from waffle weave bath gowns, beautiful bath products, hairdryers, a wine fridge, an icemaker but best of all four-gorgeous helpful staff to assist with everything. I need to tell you another secret….. they make the tastiest nasi gorgeng and can mix a lychee martini better than the bartenders at kudeta.

I can honestly say I found my perfect match when it comes to somewhere to stay on Lembongan – Rumah Putih is the ultimate island villa.

It was that time again, the time when a little weekend escape was needed and given that the Seminyak silly season was all set to start I thought it was the perfect time to head to Lembongan to relax, refresh and recharge my slightly worn down battery.

That was the easy decision; the hard decision (as always) was which fabulously new and amazing villa should we stay at, my list of must haves is always long and I can (sometimes) be very, very picky – the only peeps that know my list of needs is the team at The Lembongan Traveller, the Lembongan experts.

Villa Sayang was strongly suggested, and I have to say I was hesitant at first, as it wasn’t in the exact area where I really really love to stay and it wasn’t a brand new modern slash contemporary style villa. But…. then it was explained to me, it had its own boat (hello), its own private beach (oooh now that sounds nice) a full time team to look after everything (ummm even better) and its own private chef that cooks better than Jamie Oliver (okay im in).

Arriving on Lembongan we were greeted by the team from Villa Sayang… where they loaded our bags, and us onto their very own boat, we were whisked off to Tamarind Beach – which is where Villa Sayang sits regally, high above overlooking the crystal clear surrounding waters.

The gorgeous staff proudly showed us around, and I was overwhelmed not only by its majestic old style Bali beauty but how immense this property is – it literally went on and on forever.

Secluded and beachfront, Villa Sayang is nothing short of exquisite, spread over 2 tiers, this property is truly lush tropical oasis, featuring not 1 but 2 infinity edge swimming pools, 100m of ocean frontage, its own private beach, gorgeous green manicured gardens, 7 beautiful air conditioned bedrooms all with private ensuites, these are just a few of the 5 star features that this villa has to offer.

The bottom tier is a sanctuary in itself featuring 3 stunning bedrooms overlooking Tamarind Beach all facing onto the infinity pool, and a family / dining area sitting under a huge open living bale as big as a ballroom.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I made my way up the winding white lava stone staircase and reached the upper level where the main villa sits …. It’s then you realize how large this property is – a double story pavilion housing 4 more super sized bedrooms all with their own private tropical style ensuite, each have massive balconies overlooking the bluer than blue bay. There’s another infinity edge pool with more sparkling views, a dining / relaxing outdoor bale and a huge family / tv area. I was blown away with how gorgeous this villa is and it had me appreciating all over again the beautiful old style Balinese architecture – with thatched roofs, open style living so you can acutally take in all the beauty that surrounds you.

Relaxing here is made pretty easy, you literally feel like you are in your own private retreat, peaceful and so very very pretty, its easy to do nothing here except chill and forget all the crazy that may be happening back home. There is a dedicated massage room where a talented masseuse can roll out all the tension that may be laying in your limbs. Or perhaps your are up for a surf? A stand up paddle ? A snorkel ? Villa Sayang has all the equipment right there ready for you to use. Their private beach ( exposed on low tide) is pristine, the perfect place to take a bottle of wine, a towel and a book and hide on the white sand for the afternoon.

The Sayang staff are nothing short of amazing, smiling, funny and so polite, they really are fabulous – all getting their jobs done with out ever “getting in your way”, nothing was ever a problem, preparing the boat for snorkeling, making us a G&T, picking up a take away hot chocolate from The Deck. And of course the Chef… well she most certainly knocked our socks off. Nasi Goreng, Stir Fried Noodles, Chicken Salad, Thai Green Curry …. No wonder I went home 3 kilos heavier. This lady could cook up anything within a minutes notice and I cannot even begin to tell you how delicious her dishes were.

We had planned on heading out for dinner in fact we had plans to hire a scooter and do all the usual things we love to do when on Lembongan, but why bother, when you have the perfect paradise with everything you need right at your fingertips.

I was really impressed with the attention to detail that Villa Sayang paid to the little things, hair dryers, kimono’s, beautiful, white linen, cable tv, flowers, magazines, the list goes on. The bedrooms are large and the beds so comfy.

It’s a perfect family holiday villa – with so much space you can send the kids up to the lower level area and not even hear them, an ideal place to celebrate that special occasion, 40^th, engagement, whatever your celebration may be – these guys have the space and the staff to ensure that they can accommodate anything.

We absolutely adored our stay at Villa Sayang – everything was perfect. Thank you to the Lembongan Traveller for introducing us to this magnificent villa and thank you to Villa Sayang for having us – it is most certainly the closest thing on earth to paradise.

This villa may not be the newest on the island but it is most certainly the grandest.

It’s no secret that our go to getaway when we need to escape the silly that sometimes Seminyak is known for is Nusa Lembongan. We are pretty fussy about where we stay returning to our favourites again and again. But this time we thought – lets mix it up and try somewhere completely different.

I must admit I was pretty excited to try some new digs on the island, a change is as good as a holiday, and that’s what we are on Lembongan for. As the Rocky van made its way through the bumpy roads and overgrown foliage we were pretty eager to get to this new villa we had heard so much about - Villa Coral. Pulling up on a narrow road right next to Tamarind Beach – I knew I was staying somewhere absolutely beach front when the waves were lapping at my feet as I was wheeling my luggage thru the white sand to get to Villa Coral’s entrance. We were not disappointed by what greeted us.

Very large and lovely, modern but in an elegant island style way this villa is cleverly designed so every inch of the bay is captured from every point of this double story Nusa Lembongan villa.

This beach front beauty is tucked away in a private and very quiet part of the island, it’s truly beautiful, with every amenity that you will need during your stay provided for you. With four staff to take care of everything – all you need to do is sit back and do nothing – something I’m very good at.

This Nusa Lembongan villa has 4 enormous air-conditioned bedrooms, each with king size beds and very generous ensuite bathrooms – all bedrooms have views of the beach and bay that stretch out as far as the eye can see.

We spent our days by or I should say laying in the infinity pool taking in the impressive outlook – the star of the show being Mt Agung – which, when he makes an appearance he is seen perfectly from every location in this villa.

The poolside bar got a good work out– that impressive stainless steel refrigerator kept our champagne chilled to perfection. The staff were always on hand with menus from local warungs and happily ordered delicious meals for us, collected them and lay out our dishes for us in the beautiful open-air dining area overlooking the pool and the beach.

Breakfast at Villa Coral is a great way to start your day – the staff cook up a some tasty treats that will keep you full right thru to lunch – so good in fact – we requested 2^nd servings.

This Nusa Lembongan villa is literally on the beach! When the tide comes in – you open the front gate – and the waves almost reach the beautiful stone boundary. A walk along the beach you will find local fisherman untangling their nets whilst their young children play in the waves.

At night take in the sunset from the poolside bar – or the view is just as good if not better from the upstairs lounge area.

With an air- conditioned entertainment room that also doubles as a massage room, this Nusa Lembongan villa has everything to ensure your holiday is perfect in every way.

There is lots to do on this island paradise; snorkel, explore, etc., but we have been to Lembongan many times before, so we decided just to chillax and enjoy everything that Villa Coral had to offer – that being the peaceful and secluded position – leaving us with the feeling that we had this whole stretch of beach to ourselves.

Villa Coral is most certainly a beachfront beauty, a picture perfect position which will ensure your island getaway is as every bit as wonderful as the view it looks out to.

Take the front gate to the side of the pool (on the Mushroom Bay side) and it leads you down to to the bottom of the cliff where a wide flat rocky platform juts out over the sea. Here you will find a private ladder clinging to the rock wall that you can descend and immerse yourself in the beautiful clear waters of Nusa Lembongan. There is something incredibly inspiring about this private hidden nook and entering the sea this way is so wonderful. Do take care, however, as there can be strong currents and swell here.

All your island needs are taken care of with a group of smiling staff at hand. Enjoy your complimentary daily breakfast freshly prepared from the in house menu with fresh juices, fruit platters, indonesian or western fare. You can even arrange the villa chef to cook you lunch or dinner but arrange this early so you you allow staff time to source ingredients. There is also a choice of wine, champagne, beer and soft drink at an extra charge. In villa massages can also be arranged to ensure you slip into Nusa Lembongan mode. Nightly turn down service add the final touch at the end of hard day enjoying the Villa Tanjung vista.
