The Conscious Traveller Guide
Welcome to our little paradise! Help us keep Nusa Lembongan a safe, comfortable, and charming holiday destination by taking these small yet impactful steps.
Keep The Island Clean
Please bring your own coffee tumbler, water bottle and shopping bag to help minimise single use packaging and plastic.
Respect Local Customs
- Address local elders as “Bapak” (male) or “Ibu” (female).
- Refrain from using your left hand when handing over something.
- Avoid using your fingers to point and refrain from touching someone’s head.
- Wear clothing that covers your shoulders and below your knees when entering a temple.
- Do not enter a temple if you are on your period.
- Honk your scooter horn when you ride past a cemetery, temple, or any other sacred sites.
Use Electricity Mindfully
Nusa Lembongan’s electricity comes from Nusa Penida, occasional blackouts may occur due to supply shortages. Please turn off air conditioners and lights when not in use.

Avoid Fireworks
For several reasons, we kindly ask you not to light fireworks.
- Safety Concerns: Fireworks can pose significant safety risks, especially in unfamiliar settings.
- Fire Hazard: Fireworks can easily start fires, particularly in dry conditions. Many properties have alang-alang roofing, and the island lacks fire brigade or emergency services.
- Noise Disturbance: Nusa Lembongan is a tranquil, family-friendly destination. Fireworks can disturb guests, local wildlife, and nearby residents.
- Environmental Impact: Fireworks release pollutants and debris that harm the environment. We are committed to sustainability and reducing our ecological footprint.
By following these guidelines, you’ll help preserve the beauty and serenity of Nusa Lembongan for everyone. Thank you for being a conscious traveller.
