The Garden Shacks, Sandy Bay Lembongan

The Garden Shacks, Sandy Bay Lembongan

If you think “shack” means basic, this is not the case at the new Garden Shacks at Sandy Bay, Lembongan.  They are the most divine timber shacks, inspired by traditional Indonesian homes which have been re-created to give guests a very special experience.  Each of the 6 shacks have their own unique finishing touches and each are aptly named after an iconic island locations – Devils Tear ( where we stayed, which is painted with smokey blues and pink hues), Blue Corner, Gamat Bay, Mangrove Pint, Batu Abah & Broken Beach.

The Garden Shack experience is reflective of a boutique hotel, with rooms completed with creature comforts such as luxury linen & bedding, air conditioning, Sensatia Botanical amenities, open air bathrooms, private balconies and mini bar. We love their attention to Planet earth, by providing water in glass bottles and encouraging guests to restrict laundering of towels to every 3 days – but of course they will oblige if otherwise requested.

Affordably priced at under AU$200 / night including breakfast, PLUS the bonus of all the facilities you expect to find at a resort, but without the large numbers of people, makes privacy and relaxation the key for guests staying at The Garden Shacks.

The Café serves up delicious fresh food with great healthy options plus a wonderful cocktail list.  You can enjoy your meal poolside or on the upper deck area which grabs oceans and sunsets on demand! The pool is a gorgeous secluded space to relax, with palm trees and surrounded by double-bed pool lounges where a book and gin & tonic go hand in hand.

Breakfast can be served at your preferred location; at your room on your balcony, poolside or in the Café listening to the waves crashing onto the shores of Sandy Bay.  We would rate the breakfast as one of the BEST we have had on Lembongan, as part of an accommodation package.  Serious thought has gone into its composition, presentation and delivery – freshly squeezed fruit juice in a re-usable bottle, tea or coffee, neatly rolled omelette with tomato goodness, serving of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and muesli plus a bread basket of pastries and rolls, complete with homemade jam. We were very impressed!

There is also the Sandy Bay Spa & Salon  (Glo Day Spa) which is a firm favourite for us and many of our guests for pampering and treatments.  Yes, they do waxing and we can vouch they are VERY good, manicures are amazing and their two-person (four hands on you) massage is definitely a must-do.  The Spa also offers in-villa services if you would prefer to have them come to you.

Then when you think you have it all, Sandy Bay Beach Club is a gentle 100m stroll down the road which is open from 8am till late for breakfast, lunch and dinner and of course for their famous sunset drinks.   You will also need to pop into The Walking Tree for a little island retail therapy, they tick all the boxes with fashion, homewares & island treasures.

That’s a wrap for The Garden Shacks, we LOVED it and hope you too get to enjoy and share in their wonderful creation and the entire Sandy Bay experience.
