Island Protect
Island Protect is an inspiring collaboration that brings together several organizations committed to making a difference in the community of Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan. This initiative is a partnership between the Social Enterprise Bali Hope, the NGO Bali Children Foundation, and the community-based organization Friends of Lembongan. Together, they are working diligently to promote environmental cleanup and educational opportunities for the island’s children.
This initiative is powered by a coalition of dedicated partners, including The Lembongan Traveller, Sandy Bay, Komodo Garden, and various local businesses, organizations, villa owners, and individual fundraiser teams. All are united in their commitment to making sustainable change and enhancing the quality of life in these beautiful islands.
A significant focus of Island Protect is to provide crucial financial support for salaries and infrastructure at the Lembongan Recycle Center (LRC). The LRC plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of both islands. It collects garbage from local businesses, homes, and from established Waste Collection Points. Each month, the LRC successfully cleans the roadsides and recycles many tons of rubbish, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for both residents and visitors.
In addition to environmental efforts, Island Protect is dedicated to supporting education in six schools across the islands. They facilitate English language education in all four elementary schools, as well as in the Junior High School and Senior High School. Furthermore, the Lembongan Computer Campus offers computer studies in a purpose-built facility, ensuring that students from years 7 to 12 have access to essential technological skills that will serve them well in the future.
Looking ahead, Island Protect plans to establish a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program at SD3 Lembongan Elementary School when classes resume in 2020 post-COVID-19. This trial program aims to provide students with hands-on experience in critical areas of study and will be expanded based on the success and availability of donations.
