The Conscious Traveller

The Conscious Traveller

Travelling to Nusa Lembongan is a dream come true for anyone who lands on its pristine white sandy beaches. The crystal clear waters, immaculate shorelines, and vibrant culture make this destination a popular choice for all. It is important to remember that our actions can have a significant impact on the environment and local communities. Being a conscious traveller means minimising our negative impact on the places we visit.

In this article, you will learn how to help preserve the beauty of Nusa Lembongan.

REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES

Popular tourist destinations, such as Nusa Lembongan, face the issue of increased plastic waste. Play your part in addressing this problem by carrying a reusable water bottle and refilling it whenever necessary. Our villas come equipped with water refill stations, which are available to you free of charge. Furthermore, many of the island’s restaurants and cafes provide complimentary water refills. Using your reusable bottle instead of a plastic one will help reduce the amount of plastic waste.

AVOID SINGLE-USE PLASTIC

Nusa Lembongan faces a severe problem with single-use plastic pollution, which calls for conscious travellers to take action. Carrying a reusable shopping bag is one of the most effective ways to achieve this, as it minimizes the need for single-use plastic bags. To further reduce the use of single-use plastics such as straws and utensils, consider bringing your own on your travels.

Alternatively, you can easily find these items for sale on the island. While dining out, inform your server that you don’t want a plastic straw or utensils, and they will happily comply.

PROPER WASTE MANAGEMENT

Responsible waste management is crucial for ensuring that tourism has a positive impact on Nusa Lembongan. To play your part, utilize designated waste bins or facilities for proper disposal while exploring the island. By taking these simple yet effective steps, you can help reduce the amount of waste that harms natural habitats or ends up in landfills.

An important initiative promoting sustainable waste management on the island is the Lembongan Recycling Center. They are actively involved in sorting and separating hard waste, composting food scraps from local restaurants and cafes, and encouraging visitors to use designated rubbish bins. Collaborating with the Lembongan Recycling Center will contribute to protecting the island and promoting sustainable tourism.

BE KIND TO THE OCEAN

Snorkelling and diving are two of the most popular activities in Nusa Lembongan. Home to a vibrant ecosystem of marine life and stunning coral reef, it is important to practice responsible ocean behaviours. Avoid feeding or touching marine animals, as well as littering or leaving any trash behind. Additionally, we recommend using reef-safe sunscreen to prevent harmful chemicals from entering the water and damaging the coral. It’s crucial to remember that coral reefs are delicate and provide habitats for an array of underwater creatures.

Choose a reputable tour operator as they prioritize environmental friendliness and provide education about appropriate conduct In the ocean. Engaging in responsible practices is a way to help protect these natural treasures for years to come.

REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION

Reducing energy consumption is a key responsibility for conscious travellers. Take simple steps like turning off lights, air conditioning, fans, and electronics when not in use. Many accommodation in Nusa Lembongan adopt eco-friendly practices, changing towels and linen every third day to minimize environmental impact.

As a mindful tourist, you can contribute by hanging your wet pool towels in the sun to dry, allowing for reuse during your stay. Water conservation is also critical. Keep showers short as this will help make a difference in preserving this precious commodity. These small actions can greatly reduce your carbon footprint while travelling.

CULTURAL TIPS

Respect the local culture by dressing modestly, following customs and traditions, and using pleasantries in the local language when you can. When visiting Hindu temples avoid wearing revealing clothing and opt for items that cover your shoulders and knees.  A sarong loosely tied over your clothes for both men and woman is an appropriate way of showing respect when attending ceremonies or entering a temple.

Embracing the local culture during your travels is key to fostering an enriching and authentic experience. When immersing yourself in the local customs, traditions, language, and way of life, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the culture and build meaningful connections with the Lembongan community.

Becoming a mindful traveller involves making small yet significant efforts to reduce our environmental impact. It’s within our power to preserve natural wonders such as Nusa Lembongan, ensuring their beauty remains for future generations. The decision lies with each of us, and once made, adopting a sustainable lifestyle becomes effortless.

The power of community

We feel it is time to reach out and once again thank all of our incredibly generous donors to the Love for Lembongan fundraiser.  Your support through out COVID was nothing short of amazing and gave the local Lembongan so much; in the form of food relief, remedial literacy and numeracy programs, community health checks, providing medication to the disadvantaged and environmental initiatives which included the development of a community garden.

More importantly you gave HOPE.  It was this sense of family and support that helped sustain them during a time of immense challenges, the locals knew they had people from afar caring about them.

Love for Lembongan, with the guidance from Bali Children Foundation, was the vehicle behind implementing programs that touched the entire community, giving ongoing support to the 8000 people living on Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan. This included distributing over 30 tonnes of rice and other essential dry goods, all bought locally and creating an important injection of funds back into the community in the process.

As we move forward into the next phase, Love for Lembongan is focused on supporting community initiatives that are sustainable and beneficial for the longer-term.  We will also continue to support those most in need.

Sadly, last week a local family lost their two bedroom house and kitchen in a fire, destroying everything they owned.  The family of four  ( two children aged 5 & 8 years) have had support from family and friends, however, as you can imagine they are without many standard house hold items.  Our team met with the family this week and have gathered a better understanding of how we can assist them.  Donations are welcome and can made via the link below or if you are on Lembongan, touch base with our team at The Lembongan Traveller office in Jungut Batu.

PRIORITY PATIENTS PROGRAM

As tourism returns, our work with “Love for Lembongan” and support of the community continues. Whilst food relief was initially our focus we are now moving into providing more sustainable support via our Priority Patience Program. At the end of 2021 we partnered with island angel BUNDA to provide health care and medical checks to the elderly and disabled.  During these visits we identified priority patients who were in need of further assistance.

Thanks to your donations, over the last few months LOVE for LEMBONGAN has been able to provide the following:

LOVE for Lembongan – Wrapping Up 2021

As 2021 comes to an end, we reflect on the challenges that have been faced by so many people here on Lembongan and incredible impact Love for Lembongan has had on so many..  Our “village of Lembongan lovers“ (you)  have rallied, opening your hearts to support those most in need.  Thanks to your donations the “Love for Lembongan” campaigns by The Lembongan Traveller, Lembongan Island Beach Villas and Tigerlilly’s have raised over $100,000.  An overwhelming result and show of support considering you have all been touched in some way by COVID-19.

We have so many positives to share with you, all a direct result of your tremendous generosity.  We have been able to implement a number of instrumental initiatives all guided and supported by our inspiring charity partner, Bali Children Foundation (BCF).  Special mentioned must go to their founder, Margaret Barry for her tiresome dedication to helping the Lembongan community.

EDUCATION – Remedial Literacy & Numeracy – Calistung Program (CLT)

The idea of a CLT program was first discussed at the beginning of 2021 when we recognised the impact of school closures during COVID-19 was having on the literacy of children in grades 1, 2 & 3.  Schools have only recently re-opened resulting in nearly 18 months of school “online”, which is done via Whats App.

BCF developed CLT,  in line with the National Indonesian curriculum, to focus on remedial literacy, numeracy and writing.  It was a seed planted in Lembongan which has now been implemented in 15 primary schools across Bali.  By January 2022 we will have launched CLT in all 5 primary schools on Lembongan and Ceningan.

Prior to launching the program in schools, BCF conducted testing for 2nd and 3rd graders on each of the remedial subjects to gauge the need on a grade and school basis. We learned that the grade 3 students were the furthest behind due to the increased expectation in knowledge from grade 2, which they missed. It also discovered areas of weakness among children in all three subjects that varied between schools.

CLT uses interactive and engaging material with a student centric model which allows BCF teachers to provide an ideal learning environment.

In addition to developing the CLT program, BCF have also began upgrading school libraries to provide a better learning space for the children participating in the CLT course. This process involves cleaning the old library, repainting the walls with child friendly images, providing multimedia equipment (projectors or tv), adding in a sitting space of carpet and colourful cushions, refreshing the library with new books which are labelled, inputted into a library record system and organised categorically on the shelves.

We are proud to have seen this program grow from infancy to fruition.  Your donations have given the next generation the opportunity for an education they deserve to ensure they prosper later in life.

ENVIRONMENT – Lembongan Community Garden

The Lembongan Community Garden was established to demonstrate new sustainable agriculture opportunities for the people of Lembongan. The aim is to expand the range of foods grown on the island and to offer a way for families to develop their own gardens.

The Community Garden will be used as a way for children and families on the island who would like to try permaculture. The experimental stage will last 6 months, after which a timeline will be developed for permaculture education for children and their families and the opportunity to participate in their own gardens.

Compost developed at the Lembongan Recycling Centre is vital to ensure the long-term establishment of permaculture on the island.  A hammer-mill was installed and a small number of local stakeholders are involved in the early stage of providing green, dried and food waste for the composting program.

We see this as a key initiative to offering sustainable practices for the community, especially as tourism returns.  Thanks to the generosity of many, this initiative was also funded by the LOVE for LEMBONGAN campaigns.

HEALTH – Home visits, health checks & care packages

In November we teamed up with island angel Ibu Nyoman ( affectionately known as Bunda), who has been a nurse and midwife at the Jungut Batu Hospital for 35 years, plus operates her own private clinic.  Her intimate knowledge of Lembongan community health is crucial in us reaching those most in need.

Over four weeks of Sundays ( Bunda’s day off from the hospital)  we reached more than 200 people which included:

  • Home visits to the elderly and disabled who cannot otherwise reach medical treatment. These visits included health checks, medication and care packages.
  • Health packages for pregnant mothers to be and breasting mums, providing them with vitamins, juices and formula.

Health Checks and Care Packages for Lembongan Locals, Lembongan Hotels, Lembongan Resorts, Lembongan Bungalows, Lembongan Villas, The Lembongan Traveller, Nusa Lembongan Hotels, Nusa Lembongan Resorts, Nusa Lembongan Bungalows, Nusa Lembongan Villas,

Some of the most prevalent conditions that we saw include:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes resulting in blindness and in some cases amputation
  • Physical disabilities resulting from trauma & unknown causes

From these visits we have identified a list of priority patients in urgent need of new mobility aids, braces and ideally therapy.

BCF have contacted Annika Linden Centre (specialists in providing disability support) on our behalf and are currently in talks with them to arrange a visit to Lembongan to assess the “priority patients”.

We have also reported an extremely high number of elderly on Lembongan and Ceningan who are at home, bed-ridden requiring full time care and unable to access basic medical support.  As a result BCF will be instigating talks with the Health Department to see how this can be mitigated going forward and hopefully steps  can be established for support of the elderly from a government level.

FOOD RELIEF – for Lembongan

The initial key objective for the “LOVE for Lembongan” fundraising campaign was to provide immediate food relief to families on Nusa Lembongan.  Having no tourism on the island since March 2020, it is understandable how the lives of so many have been hugely affected. Life savings have been drained, assets liquidated for very little in return to try and meet the challenge of covering basic living expenses. Putting food on the table is a daily struggle for so many families.

We first reached out to our network of “Lembongan Lovers” (you) back in April 2020, immediately you reached deep and donated to support the Lembongan community.  We were overwhelmed with the response from day one and together over 18 months you have continued to give generously.

Food for Lembongan Families, Lembongan Hotels, Lembongan Resorts, Lembongan Bungalows, Lembongan Villas, The Lembongan Traveller, Nusa Lembongan Hotels, Nusa Lembongan Resorts, Nusa Lembongan Bungalows, Nusa Lembongan Villas,

Thanks to your donations LOVE for Lembongan campaigns via The Lembongan Traveller, Tigerlillys and Lembongan Island Beach Villas have provided consistent food relief for the 8000 population of Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan.

There have been over 5000 Sembako packages gifted to families, these packages included basic food staples; rice, noodles, oil, onions and sugar. We work alongside local stakeholders, business owners, village heads and community groups to ensure packages are received by those most in need.  Databases have been kept to log recipients with their local ID numbers.  We also reached the migrant workers who live here from Sumba, Sulawesi and other islands who have not be able to return home to the support of their extended families and are not registered under the Lembongan village system.

Acknowledging that the financial impact of COVID is also preventing many people from being to afford gas to cook with, the team at Tigerlilly’s opened up their kitchen and prepared over 1000 Nasi Jinggo ( pre-prepared meals). These were distributed by scooter across both islands, given to those most in need of a freshly cooked meal.

The logistics of packing and delivery up to 700 packages across Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan in a day has been an incredible team effort from our volunteers on the ground. With over 50 kind hearted locals from The Lembongan Traveller, Tigerlillys, Lembongan Island Beach Villas, Tenang Villas, Bali Children Foundation and the wonderful Lembongan Surf Team members all lending a hand to help their community.

COMMUNITY – Health checks, education & yoga for pregnant mums

To celebrate Indonesian Mother’s Day ( 22 December ) we partnered with our island angel Bunda and Tonic Body & Soul Day Spa to create a special workshop for pregnant mums on Lembongan.

The workshop provided mums with health checks, an educational talk followed by a gentle yoga practice and healing sound journey, giving the mums space to recharge and connect within.

It was an incredibly beautiful morning, the LOVE for LEMBONGAN team honoured the pregnant mums with a stunning flower mandala and gifted them with care packages that included food staples, supplements and vitamins to help them through their pregnancy.

Gratitude to Bunda, Tonic Body & Soul Day Spa and our LOVE for LEMBONGAN team for creating a special Mother’s Day celebrations for our island mums-to-be.

The LOVE for LEMBONGAN fundraising campaign will remain open and an ongoing entity where we will direct support to the areas in the community most needed at the time.

Health Checks and Care Packages for Lembongan Locals

LOVE for Lembongan team have been busy providing health checks and care packages for Lembongan locals.

We partnered with Ibu Nyoman who is affectionately known as “Bunda” (meaning Mother) by the community. She is an earth angel who brings healthcare to those most in need, working as a nurse and midwife at the Jungut Batu hospital for 35 years plus also operates her own private clinic on her days off and after hours.

It is incredibly humbling to be able to be by her side and see how much she gives back to the Lembongan Community. Thanks to your donations we prepared care packages for pregnant mothers and joined her on home visits to the elderly and disabled, where she monitored vital signs, dispensed medication, gave sanitary supplies and diabetic supplements.

Bunda’s connection with her patients is nothing short from amazing, a result from years of work in the community. Many of the elderly patients are blind, have diabetes and unable to move from their bed, relying on family to care for their most basic needs.

Bunda consulted the patients and carers, giving details for medication dosages and comforting those who were distressed. She brings hope and health to those most in need, her commitment to the community is relentless. We will continue to work with Bunda once a week for the month of November, assisting her in reaching over 200 patients.

Thank to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts, together we can make a difference. Special thanks to our charity partners Bali Children Foundation for their ongoing support of the Lembongan community during these difficult times.

Plastic Exchange Comes to Ceningan

Following the success of Plastic Exchange in Jungut Batu and Lembongan Villages, organisers took this wonderful initiative to Nusa Cenigngan.  The first Plastic Exchange on Ceningan was a great success, with locals bringing in almost 1.5 tonnes of rubbish and in return taking home over 300kg rice.

The highlight of the day was 11 year old Gita. She arrived with a truck FULL of rubbish, which she and her friends had collected and separated into cardboards, plastic and metal.  After weighing it in they collectively took home 27 kgs of rice for their families.

It’s incredible to see how this initiative has grown and is inspiring all, especially the younger generations to participate.  Gita is an a wonderful example of how the program benefits both the island and individuals.  We look forward to Gita sharing the Plastic Exchange message to more of her friends in her village.

It was wonderful to be able to support Nyoman and her family.  The well renowned Nyoman’s Warung, like so many other warungs on Lembongan has suffered severely during COVID.  The family have returned to seaweed farming, however this is not enough to support their family of 6.  Harvests have not been good, in the last 2 months they have dried 60kg seaweed, for which they receive less than $100

Personal story of a Lembongan local and how they are trying to adapt during COVID

Many of you will know this face, Made, brother of Pinky & Nicky who operate fishing & snorkelling tours, surf drop off / pick up, SUP hire from along the path as you walk to Coconut Beach from Jungut Batu.

We caught up with Made and his wife whilst they were tending to their seaweed farm at low tide. As you can see from the pictures this was at sunset, they had also been working from 4.00 am

( previous low tide) to collect the seaweed for drying and will be back out the next morning at 4.30am with the next low tide.

With no tourism for 18 months now, their core business of servicing tourists is at a standstill, they have been forced to invest their savings in the setup of seaweed farming to try and make ends meet.

It is a struggle every month to feed their family and find money for basic living expenses.  They need at least 100kg of dried seaweed per month to cover these costs, currently they are getting around 50kg per month.  A few months ago they were meeting their targets but the current crops are not doing well.  They have planted the two varieties ( red and green), the red grows quicker but only receives 40c / kg, where as the green variety takes much longer to grow and fetches $1.50 / kg.

Seaweed farming is arduous, with no guarantees of harvest returns.

Made and his wife are doing their best to support their family.  Their two sons have completed college in Bali and moved back to Lembongan during COVID.  Made is grateful they have had an education and feels for the younger children on the island who are missing out on basic learning as schools have also been closed since March 2020.

If you hold fond memories of a holiday on Lembongan, chances are it was made extra special because of the people who you meet during your stay.  This is our chance to give back to them, if you can give as much as $10 this will buy a family 10kg of rice.

Plastic Exchange for Nusa Lembongan

Plastic Exchange for Nusa Lembongan

The Lembongan Traveller is thrilled to be partnering with the team behind Plastic Exchange for Nusa Lembongan.  We recently caught up with, Nagi owner of Ombak Zero Café, and founder of this wonderful initiative. Here is an overview of the process, their plans and how YOU too can help the Lembongan community.

The Plastic Exchange initiative in Nusa Lembongan started in February 2021 with two main goals in mind:

  • to clean up the island
  • help feed the community

The concept is two-fold, very simple, and immediately effective.

Step 1:

With donations from businesses and/or individuals, a large quantity of basic food provisions is purchased.

Step 2:

Members of the community collect rubbish from their home compounds, roads and rivers in their village, and bring their collections to the neighborhood “banjar” (meeting area) to be weighed. Each category of trash has a ratio for kilograms of trash to kilograms of rice distributed in return.

For example, single use plastic items that are harder to collect and weigh lighter have a 3 kilogram plastic to 1 kilogram rice ratio, in comparison to glass bottles that have a ratio of 10 kilogram of glass to 1 kilogram of rice.

The plastic is valued by kilogram, and paid out in provisions.

Outcome

The village environment is cleaned and the villagers can earn their staple foods—a win-win.

Why we need your help

Nusa Lembongan heavily relies on tourism, so when COVID-19 hit over a year ago, almost everyone lost their jobs. From tour guides, restaurant workers, house keepers, surf coaches, dive instructors, boat captains to business owners. This resulted in many locals going back to what the island was originally known for, seaweed farming.

How seaweed farming fits into the mix

The island was quieter but everyone was busy seaweed farming to gain a little bit of income. The smell of the seaweed came back to Jungut Batu village, and more of the coastline was filled with seaweed farms. Now the channel between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan is covered with seaweed stakes and famers.

However, the income that comes from farming is nowhere near what many received from their previous jobs in the tourism sector. 1 kilogram of dried seaweed is sold for Rp 15,000/kg, which is equivalent to about 8 kilogram of wet seaweed. It takes around 20 to 30 days to harvest one round. An average family is required to harvest around 700 kilogram of dry seaweed per cycle in order to cover their food expenses, and more if they need to pay for school fees, ceremonies, etc. That does not even take into consideration the starting seed money, the set up of the farms, the long lines of rope to tie the seaweed and the stakes.

Seaweed farming is not enough
Our island has become known for the seaweed farming on social media. However in the last couple of months, the farmers have not been able to harvest seaweed due to large waves, pests and inconsistent water temperature. So now we are in a situation where people have lost their jobs, and lost their seaweed farms.
Locals rely on the Plastic Exchange program to feed their families

Many locals have become heavily reliant on the Plastic Exchange program to feed their families. Every month we conduct the exchange, the number of participants, trash and rice distributed doubles or even triples.

Where does all the recyclables go?
Lembongan Recycling takes all the collected trash back to their facility and further processes the trash. All the plastic is shredded, compacted and sent to Bali to be recycled into new products. The money that Lembongan Recycling collects when they sell the raw recyclables is used to pay the Lembongan Recycling team and the remaining is used to purchase rice for the following exchange.
Here are the results so far:

February 2021

  • 915 kilogram rubbish collected
  • 206 kilogram of rice distributed

March 2021

  • 1873 kg of rubbish collected
  • 360 kg of rice distributed

April 2021

  • 1502 kg of rubbish collected
  • 306 kg of rice distributed

May 2021

  • 3620 kg of rubbish collected
  • 632 kg of rice distributed

June 2021

  • 8000 kg of rubbish collected
  • 1580 kg of rice distributed

July 2021

  • 24,700 kg of rubbish collected
  • 2500 kg of rice distributed

The Plastic Exchange program in Nusa Lembongan is growing exponentially, and although businesses on the island are sponsoring it with what they can, we cannot keep up with the growth without the help of others.

We need your support to keep this initiative alive in Nusa Lembongan ,through the GoFundMe or sharing our efforts with others. Even just $1 will help us buy 1 kilogram of rice, which will be the result of 3 -10 kilograms of rubbish collected.

Step 1 of the process is where we need your help, so we can buy the rice supplies to give to the locals who bring in their rubbish.

Lembongan Surf Team Competition 2021 – Series 1

Series #1 – 30th May 2021

Playground Surf Break, Nusa Lembongan

Here is a wrap-up of the Lembongan Surf Team Competition Series #1 for 2021, proudly organized in conjunction with the Indonesian Surfing League. It was a wonderful day seeing a total of 68 surfers compete across 3 divisions who were supported on the side lines by the local community.

The day saw good wave conditions, in the morning it started with consistent 2ft sets,  then in the afternoon it went up to 3 – 4ft and later increasing to 4-6ft.

The event started in the morning at 7.45am with round 1 of the Junior U/16 Boys Division, with good waves and good weather. In Round 1 of the Junior Division, there was lots of action and high scores obtained in several heats such as Miko Pebiana (6.45), Yoga Andika (5.43) and Un Jayantara who showed their talent in the waves.

It continued in the Master Division Round 1, where the waves started to get a little bigger and the currents began to be felt but it didn’t discourage our masters showing their skills.  At noon the sun was out and it was getting hot, the waves were slightly bigger, the contest committee decided to continue to the Open Division, the long-awaited action and Open Round 1 began.

In the first round we saw lots of action, including some great scores from Putra Hermawan (6.75) followed by his brother Agus Purnawan (6.23). It continued into round 2, the waves were getting bigger and the current stronger. In the second round the wave conditions were a little difficult because of the high tide and the waves were very bumpy and making it difficult for surfers who would compete in the second round, but at the end of the 2nd round, it was Agus Frimanto wearing a red shirt who managed to get the highest score (8.38).

Both the temperature and competition was heating up as we proceeded to the Quarter final where in the 3rd heat 3rd we saw some great waves and score total (16.21) from Agus Frimanto.

In the semi-final of the Open division, there was huge excitement when Jaka Satria  managed to get a barrel and the highest score of the day (9.75),  stopping Agus Frimanto in 5th place.

It was late afternoon and when we headed into the finals for the Junior, Master and Open divisions.

Starting with the  final of the Juniors, where the waves were big and with the tide going out. Lembongan Surf Team provided 2 life guards to maintain the safety and comfort of the junior surfers, as their average age was 13 years.

They all showed excellent sportsmanship with great skills for the following results:

Junior Division

1st  –  Arida Setiawan

2nd – Bagas

3rd –  Un Jayaantara

4th – Yoga Andika

In finals of the Masters  division  we saw (red) Lhaena, (white) Licek, (yellow) Cakil and (blue) Apri, the competition was quite fierce at the beginning as the wave conditions were improving and the current was starting to disappear, but all surfers only got an average score of between 2 points – 3.20 points.

Then in the last 7 minutes, the yellow surfer managed to make the highest score, it was (5.80) and took him to the winners podium.

The Open Division was next,  where the scores were very close:

1st – Tia Nustawan (13.53)

2nd –  Putra Hermawan (13.41)

3rd – Agus Purnawan (13.23)

4th – Jaka Satria (12.68)

We done to everyone involved and the Lembongan Surf Team Competition for a great Series 1.

Distribution Day – Food Relief for Lembongan

Distribution Day

As part of the “Food & Literacy Relief for Lembongan” fundraiser, last weekend we delivered food packages to another 400 families, our fourth distribution day in 12 months.

Thanks must be extended to all who helped today on the ground and behind the scenes. Special thanks to Bali Children Foundation for your ongoing support, Lembongan Surf Team for ensuring we get to those who need it most and also the Pecalang for their community spirit & great team work.

THANK YOU also to everyone who has donated, together we have made a BIG difference.  Combining this years and the 2020 fundraiser we have raised nearly $40,000 and reached over 6500 people with relief support.

There is more to come as our plans to launch literacy support programs for grades 1, 2 & 3 are on track to commence in July.

COVID has had an incredibly harsh impact on the Lembongan community. They have shown so much strength and stood tall in these times of adversity. Banding together as a community which towers high with support for each other and gratitude to those who have reached out to help them.

Final thanks goes to our incredible TLT team who have dedicated themselves to ensure the relief effort is targeted, logistically managed and implemented seamlessly.
